2014 Tawas Bay

Don’t hoist the spinnaker on a screaming reach….

Wow…. Another great sailing event for 2014 is in the books.  The Tawas location has proven to be a fan favorite for quite a few years, and this year was no exception.   Eric Kennedy on race committee ran 2 distance events on Saturday and buoy racing on Sunday for a great mix of different types of racing.  Last year Ed and Tara resurrected the distance event format and hopefully this will continue in the future.

Dear CRAM Member,

As we look forward to the 2014 sailing season I would like to communicate changes that were approved at the fall membership business meeting. There was much discussion regarding the difficulty in filling club officer and regatta volunteer (race committee, hospitality, etc...) positions. In recent years the pool of volunteers has declined to the point where the same small group of members are performing all of the work. For the club to continue to offer first class regattas and cover our expenses, including planning for future needs, the work needs to be shared by all members.

Higgins Lake: “Pure Michigan” at its finest.

In typical Midwest fashion, if you didn’t like the weather just wait five minutes!

We had sunshine, rain, lots of wind, and no wind, forecasted weather for shorts and t-shirts, but turned to warm packs and dry suits - great suggestion from Tara Cunningham!

In terms of the weather, we really saw just about everything, except snow...Thank God!

2014 Icebreaker

Written by
For a whole week I had been checking the weather every day - sometimes even multiple times. Jody, who was heading the organization of the 2014 Icebreaker, was getting tired answering the primary question of all participants: “Hey, with the weather forecast - are we sailing?”.

Saturday morning came and the weather forecast was pretty accurate: Winds around 24 gusting beyond 30 knots! The start got postponed for two hours.

2013 Muskegon

Written by
We'd love to say the sun always shines on CRAM regattas but that'd be a lie.  Fortunately, that doesn't stop us from having fun, and this year was no exception.  Below is a rehash of this year's challenging Muskegon regatta as told by Ed Cunningham - Vice Commodore and skipper of the 2nd place F18.  Credit to Ron Kramer for supplying the photos.

2013 Message from the Commodore

I would like to welcome all cat sailors to CRAM's 2013 season. The officers have been working diligently to finalize the regatta locations and to roll out improvements to various areas of the club. Some of these improvements will include an updated Website, Facebook page and the addition of a Twitter account. We will make the online registration process easier and it will include sign-up for the meals. This will help us plan better, streamline the on-site registration and will give everyone more time to tune their boats, socialize or have another coffee.

2013 Happy New Year!

Written by
Yet another year has slipped under our hulls.

As the new website editor, I wanted to first and foremost thank Roger for an excellent job over the past years.  Volunteer positions, especially behind the scenes ones like this, can be thankless jobs.  I know what really goes into it and perhaps more than anyone else, I can appreciate the work he's done (and done well).

2012 Higgins

Written by
Higgins Lake State Park used to be a staple on the regatta schedule, sometimes being on the schedule in spring and fall. However, for a couple of years it did not make the cut given all of the other great sailing locations in Michigan.  This year though, Higgins Lake was back on the table!

2012 Bay City

Due to very adverse weather forecast, Bay City was cancelled for the weekend.  Unfortunately, our cats don't take too kindly to 30knot gusts!
