CRAM is excited to announce the addition of Manistee to our 2017 regatta line-up. The coast of Manistee offers a second visit to Lake Michigan and fifth big lake venue in one season. We certainly hope that this scenic little vacation town will become a regular addition for seasons to come.
From US 31, head west on 1st street. Take the first right in the round-about near the lakeshore, and pass the boat launch. The CRAM designated area is the large field on the right, past the pavilions.
On the South side of the mouth of the Manistee River lies Douglas Park and a perfect beach to host a regatta within a breakwater. Racing will be held on Lake Michigan to the north of the channel.
Both RV and Tent campers are welcome to join us right in a 1.5 acre section of Douglas Park right next to our launch site. No hookups are available, but public restrooms are nearby and showers are available to CRAM campers at the city marina located 5 minutes away in the downtown part of Manistee. Whether camping with us or not, come join us for a group campfire in the evening.
If you’re not looking for the rustic sailing & camping experience there are other campgrounds in the area including Orchard Beach State Park located 10 minutes away.
Manistee has many hotels, motels, and Bed & Breakfasts to choose from in the area including the Lake Shore Motel within walking distance from Douglas Park. For a full list and contact information see the map here.
For the Family
If you’re bringing the family with you for the weekend there will be plenty for them to do while the fleet is racing. Within walking distance of Douglas Park there is also Lighthouse Park, as well as First Street Beach which includes multiple playgrounds.
Kids not a concern? Then head downtown for Manistee’s annual Grapes on the River wine festival. Hosted by the Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce, Grapes on the River is an event that pairs local cuisine and Michigan wine. This event hosts live entertainment, while relaxing in the park at the Manistee Municipal Marina overlooking the Manistee River in the heart of Downtown Manistee.
For our Saturday night dinner CRAM has partnered with The Taco ‘Bout It Truck to bring you freshly made Mexican food you can order and eat right in Douglas Park. We’re not planning this catering style. Order whatever you want off their menu and pay for exactly what you want. They accept cash and card.
