2022 is going to be a great year! We have eight fantastic events planned this year beginning with Higgins Lake in May followed by events at beautiful venues on Lake Erie, Lake Michigan, Lake Charlevoix and Lake Huron concluding with Tawas Bay in September.
Our season kickoffs May 21/22nd at Higgins Lake. This event is always a fun part of our season with close racing and a Chili Cookoff on Saturday night. The early June CRAM event will again be generously hosted by North Cape Yacht club June 4/5th. We will be trying something a little different in mid June where we have pulled ahead the three day Caseville event to June 17-19th to minimize past issues related to finding accommodations.
Following Caseville we will be going to Michigan City on July 16/17th. This event is a great chance to sail site of the 2022 Hobie 16th North American Championship planned for September and I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity. On July 29-31st we will head to the pristine venue of Saint Martin Bay just north of the Mackinac Bridge in the Upper Peninsula. This will be a three day event and is also the F18 Northern Area Championship. It will be a great chance for F18 fleet to tune up for the 2022 Worlds scheduled for October in Clearwater Florida.
We return to Manistee August 13/14th to take advantage of the great conditions on Lake Michigan. I have sailed in venues all over the country and Lake Michigan is a great way to experience ocean sailing while avoiding salt and sharks! We then move up Boyne City for August 27/28th to enjoy beautiful Lake Charlevoix. It is a very scenic venue and in a fun town. We close out the season at Tawas on Sept 24/25th with our traditional long distance race on one of the days if conditions allow. This is a great way to try a different type of racing with a course that traverses Tawas Bay for a nice change of pace.
I encourage everyone to book accommodations early - they fill up fast.
While the COVID-19 challenges of the last two seasons seem to have diminished significantly for this season, I ask everyone continue to work to minimize risks. If anything changes that requires an adjustment to our schedule or other factors, we will keep you informed. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns before or after an event, please feel free to reach out to me directly at This email address is being protected from spambots. Regarding our operations, we continue our efforts to reduce our cost and environmental footprint by going paperless and doing as much as we can digitally. Everything from registration, to results, to event updates and the CRAM store are now online. We have a great team of contributors digital media. This team works tirelessly to keep the website and social media up to date so please check in on cramsailing.com and the facebook page often.
Last, I encourage everyone to support CRAM. This is an organization that is for us and, importantly, by us! A lot of people contribute there time and effort to make these great events happen and we can always use more help to make the club even stronger. If you are interested in helping club please reach out to me directly at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
If you need anything in preparation for the upcoming season please do not be afraid to reach out to myself or any of the officers by email or on social media.
I’m excited to see all of you in 2022 and sail the great events we have planned!
2022 Commodore, Chris Tuckfield
